About Us |
Amateur
Radio Emergency Service (ARES) is a nationwide
field organization of the American
Radio Relay League, consisting of amateur radio operators who have
voluntarily registered their services and become part of an organized
team.
ARRL has working MOUs (Memoranda of Understanding) with Department of Homeland Security - Citizen Corps, FEMA, NVOAD, American Red Cross, APCO, and others.
The trained operators of Santa Cruz County ARES provide reliable
primary and secondary communication links for the Santa Cruz County
Office of Emergency Services, Emergency Operations Centers and Public Safety Agencies throughout
the county, as well as organizations such as the Red Cross, Salvation
Army, and the major local hospitals.
ARES® and Amateur Radio Emergency Service®
are registered servicemarks of the American Radio Relay League, Incorporated
and are used by permission.
Local ARES members are also registered in the Auxiliary Communications Service (ACS)
and the Radio Amateur
Civil Emergency Service (RACES), which are administered by local, county and state emergency management agencies, supported by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), to provide radio communications
for periods of local, regional or national civil emergencies or disasters.
